Start Taking Action to Bring Your Vision to Life: The FUSE Pathway

The Start phase marks the thrilling transition from preparation to execution. This is where you start fusing, choosing either to dive in immediately or take a more measured approach. Armed with problem-solving techniques that you’ve learned, like first principles thinking and the ability to prioritize and execute, you’re ready to tackle any oncoming obstacles while remaining flexible enough to adjust your course as needed.

Noah exemplified this phase when he landed in Rio de Janeiro. Though well-prepared with writing skills and domain knowledge, he quickly discovered a critical gap — his inability to speak Portuguese. Rather than let this derail his vision, Noah adapted by enrolling in language classes while continuing to write. This adjustment led to unexpected opportunities, as his authentic experiences learning to navigate Rio became the foundation for compelling articles that caught editors’ attention. His willingness to solve problems creatively and remain flexible ultimately helped him secure a breakthrough piece in The Atlantic, launching his career as a professional travel writer.

Similarly, James Cameron demonstrated these principles when he developed the concept for the film Avatar. In 1995, the technology required to bring his vision to life was not yet possible, so he set it aside and made the film, Titanic. Cameron revisited Avatar in 2005, and while technology had improved, it wasn’t there yet, so he formed a contract with the studio to develop what he needed before production began two years later. Cameron’s patience and adaptability led to Avatar being a groundbreaking success when released in 2009, 14 years after the concept was conceived, demonstrating how the Start phase may require balancing preparation with decisive action.

The Start phase embodies the excitement of seeing your vision come to life while teaching valuable lessons about persistence and adaptability. It’s where your preparation meets reality, and by applying problem-solving skills and maintaining your creative drive, you begin turning possibilities into achievements. The journey ahead holds challenges, but with your newfound tools, you’re equipped to transform obstacles into opportunities for growth and innovation.

Soon, you’ll be ready to Evolve.
